"File not available" error on open

K

Kay

I have Office XP with SP3 on Winows XP with SP2.

I can create new word documents fine, but when I try to re-open tem I get
the error that the file is not available. This also occurs with Excel, but
wih no other program. The same files open fine in Office clones. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled Office, but that hasn't improved the situation.

What's wrong?

Thanks,

Kay

Beth and Garfield,

Thank you both very much for your responses.
You two are BRILLIANT!
Your advice was right on. I upgraded and updated my NAV.
All of a sudden the problem was gone!

But how did you know? I looked high and low for the problem:
o I looked at file permissions and OS upgrades.
o I looked for macros and Office updates.
o I even reinstalled Officea couple of times.
o I was afraid a virus might have infected my computer.

I never would have guessed that my anti-virus software was the cause.

Again, thank you very much.

You're welcome. Glad to hear your issue has been resolved. :)

As for "how we knew", the Office Plug-in option in NAV has been known
to cause numerous conflicts in the Office applications. It took a bit
of research to find the root of the problem when the issues first
started coming up, I think it was around the fall of 2001, but since
then it's one of the first things we suggest when the latest surge of
the same issue starts cropping up, such as the inability to open
Office documents.
