File open error MS Works popup with <!>

File Open, error showing popup with <!> in yellow. I
click OK twice and continues on fine. I have already
installed a new copy and I continue to get the same
message. Any help? I know it is something simple, but
my family just had colon cancer surgery and am trying to
save time. Thanks a bunch.
