File opens when Excel opens

Hi,

I used an excel file to import contacts into outlook.
Now everytime I open Excel, Excel opens to a file called
contacts, which is the file I used to import into
Outlook. The data is all garbled. What I want to do is
to eliminate this file from being opened and have Excel
open to a clean workbook called Book1.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Chuck

hi,
The only way that could happen is for contacts be in the
xl start folder. remove it form the start folder.
where is that? varies but..
c:\program files\office\office\xlstart\
try exploring around the above path. got to be there
somewhere.

just a suggestion:

check your XLStart folder. usually it is placed in "Progra
Files\Microsoft Office\Office" folder. see if this rogue file i
sitting there, it may even be hidden. if you find it there, then delet
it.

if this does not work, wait for an edification from a wiser sou
here..

If it's not in your XLStart folder, it could be this:

In excel, you can change a setting that tells excel to open all the files in a
folder:

Tools|options|general tab
"at startup, open all files in:" <xl2002+ wording>
"Alternate Startup File location" <before xl2002 wording>

Inspect that box and if there's anything in it, erase the entry (don't delete
the files--well, unless you really want them gone!)
