File Size doesn't seem to properly refresh. ?

I'm trying, desperately, to reduce the file size of my .ppt document.
When i remove slides, images or EVEN the background images
(@10''x7.5'' @ 72 dpi)
the file size stays...THE SAME. What the heck? Is that image emmbedded
forever in the file even though it doesn't appear in the presentation?
plEase HELP.
thanks,
jes

Jess,

I'm not sure if powerpoint mac has a setting called "fast saves" in "tools > options" but it can cause the problem you
have described.

What happens when you save the file under a new name?

The Mac does have the option to Allow Fast Saves under the "Save" tab, but
it is located under:
(98) Tools -> Preferences
(2001) Edit -> Preferences
(X) PowerPoint -> Preferences
