Does anyone know the limit size of .ost and .pst files in
Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003 ?

Practical and default for now = 20 gigs. Theoretical (depends on your hard
drive) 32 TB.

I would say the same to my users :-D
Files with these sizes aren't fun to fix.

They lied to you. Here's an excerpt from "Enabling a Superior Client
Experience with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003", found at <
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...da-4fb4-b142-f79e75e26617/enablingoutlook.doc

"PST and OST Enhancements. Outlook 2003 provides support for Unicode
PSTs and OSTs. Also, the size limitation of a Unicode PST or Unicode OST
file has been increased to 20 GB."

This same document does say this, however:

"One factor that can contribute to reduced performance is a large OST
file. If an OST file grows too large (for example, larger than 1 GB), or if
an individual folder grows large (for example, greater than 5,000 items)
Outlook 2003 with Cached Exchange Mode performance degrades by becoming more
sluggish. To improve response time in Outlook 2003, information workers
should either reduce the size of their mailbox (by archiving older files,
for example) or turn off Cached Exchange Mode. To help prevent the problem
of overly large OST files, a limit can be set on the mailbox size in
Exchange Server."

So, perhaps it's best if you treat Exchange mailboxes that are syncronized
as though they are old-style PSTs.

..PST and .OST files created by earlier versions of Outlook will still have
the 2GB limit, even when used in Outlook 2003. You can also create a .PST
or (I think) an .OST in the old format in Outlook 2003, in case you need to
use the file with an older version.
