I am amazed that some building plans I have done are over 16Mb in size. Is
this normal - or might I be doing something a bit "memory hungry" . I have a
few information panels imported from PowerPoint.

Any imported object of this type will take up a large amount of space.
Depending upon how you need to interact with the PP panel it might be
worth looking at saving the PP bit as a GIF or PNG graphic then adding
that image to your Visio page.
