File went from 191kb to 1G

I edited one of my .mpp file and saved. It was 191kb prior to my editing,
then it changed to 1G. the file is only 3 pages long, landscape layout, only
48 lines. I have seen other experiences 1M to 7M but not from 200k to 1G! How
did that happen? I was able to save as to another file and the size is back
down to less than 200kb. Is there a bug in microsoft project that needs to be
fixed?

When Tasks are deleted or moved, their original space in the .mpp file is
not deleted, just flagged as not used. So mpp files grow fast whenever a lot
of cut/paste etc work is done. The only times file maintenance is done is
during a File Save As or if you select File, Save immediately after opening
a project.

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

If you suspect a corrupt file, you could try the suggestions in FAQ Item:
43. Handling project file corruption and/or bloat.

Thanks, i'm using projects 2007 but alot of my clients are using 2003, so I
had to convert it to a 2003 file, otherwise they can't open. I just noticed
how quickly the file size gets bigger is when I convert it everytime i edit
and convert. I have deleted that 1G file. I'm starting another project file
and it is starting to climb up too, even if i do a 'save as' immediately
after opening a project. How do i get rid of the deleted tasks? is there
another way to get rid of the "collecting" file size during editing?

Hi,

If File Save As doesn't work then you may have a corruption, otherwise I
can't explain it. Try following instructions in FAQ Mike Glen has detailed.
