File won't open

Hello,

I have a problem opening some word files in a particular directory. When I
try to open them or copy them, nothing happens. I can create a shortcut, but
trying to open the shortcut doesn't work, either. When I open the documents
in WordPad, they appear blank. The files are on a server, and I've tried
taking ownership of the files, but I get the following error - "The
filename, directory, or volume label syntax is incorrect". The files haven't
been modified since March, so I don't even know how far I'd have to go back
to retrieve good copies. I could start with March...

Any other thoughts?

So... using Windows Explorer, you aren't able to copy the files to your
computer? Can you visit the server and copy them to a CD, DVD or other
removable storage, then copy them to your computer?

I.e.... trying to determine where the problem lies. From what you've
described, it sounds more like some kind of network problem than a Word
problem. Can you provide more detail about exactly what you've tried, and
any error messages you might encounter?
