Run Office Diagnostics (Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office, Office
Tools) and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

If I double-click on the file, nothing happens. If I launch Word2007,
click on Office button, click on Open, and navigate to where the file is
and double-click on it or single click on it and click on "Open" will
open the file.
Why simply double clicking on the file does not open the file?
What if you just select Open? Does it open then in Word 2007?
What about if you open Word 2007, then click the Office button, Open and
open your file that way?

I right-click the file, select "Open with", see no Word2007 option,
click "Browse", point to Word2007 in Program Files but that is ignored
and thus Word2007 does not get entered in the option list.

All files created by Word2002 can not be opened by Word2007 beta. Is

I ran Office Diagnostics and all diag items are OK except Update
Diagnostic which said "Unable to access a required files". I followed
instructions to remedy this problem and re-ran Office Diagnostics but
the same messaged was displayed again.
I tried to open *.doc file but nothing happened or if I persisted, it
was opend by WordPad and the display was filled with alphabets and
various signs in random fashion.
Run Office Diagnostics (Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office, Office
Tools) and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

Do you use Norton AV? If yes, then turn off the Office Plug-in.

I got RTM, replaced the beta version with it and the problem is gone.
No, Nortion AV is not installed but AVAST is. I diabled AVAST but to no
avail. Note that OS is Windows Vista RC2.
Do you use Norton AV? If yes, then turn off the Office Plug-in.

After furious head scratching, churin asked:
