Files damaged when uploading?

I am trying to add a simple chat application(SHoutbox by Xigla software) to
my website and after I uploaded it, it didn't work. The tech support at
Xigla said using frontpage to upload is damging the files and that I need to
use FTP. Does this sound right? Won't that corrupt my extensions? They
tried to upload the files using FTP and they said it worked, however I went
to my site and it didn't work. So is it possible my extensions may corrupted
already?

You can upload a single file via FTP.

Probably hosed the extensions.

You may want to put the chat in a subweb, that way you can ftp to the subweb
without damaging the extensions on the main web. Check with your host and
see if they allow subwebs.
