Files not being seen in subweb

Adrienne

I have a fp 2003 advanced web author who can not see any
files in a subweb when trying to create a website link.
Here is what they are doing:

1. Login into the server (networkelements.ncs.att.com)
thru FrontPage 2003
2. Open sub-folder (ruby)
3. Create new html document or revise html document in
ruby sub-folder
4. Click on Insert Hyperlink
5. Box appears: Look in:[ (picture of folder) Ruby]
below this is: Current Folder......and to the right of
this SHOULD HAVE all the files in the ruby folder listed
so you can choose which file you want to link to, but it
is blank
The Link to Portion to the left is set at: Existing file
or web page.

We have both(I can not link to any files either) even
tried clicking on the folder icon (browse folder) and
tried to find the files that way. All of the files are on
the server and we can see all of them when we log on thru
front page and click on the subweb, it is only when we
link try to link to the files that we can not find
anything. I can also see all of the files on the server.

Subweb / subsite are complete independent webs / site under a FP root web, FP can not maintain links
between the rootweb and subweb or subweb to subweb. You have to create a absolute URL between
subwebs.

What happens when you try this at the root web?
Has the author tried recalculating from his station?
Have you tried refresh (toolbar)?

Thomas,

They should still be able to see the files in the dialog box.
Also, it IS possible to hyperlink between root/sub webs. Just select the
proper web and hyperlink to it normally. FP will make it an absolute link
automagically.

WP,

To easily select pages to link to in a subweb / subsite, it is best to have the subweb / subsite
open in another FP window, then in the Create Hyperlink dialog, use the drop down arrow in the Look
In to switch to the subweb / site. Labels may be different depending on the version of FP.

This is workable to a degree when using the Create Hyperlink dialog. Once the link is created, if
the page is moved, renamed, etc. within the subweb, FP will not update the link.
