Files not visible

When clicking "file" and "open" and then a particular file folder, documents
in this file folder are not visible. sometimes if I try this 3 or 4 times it
will, eventually show the documents. Documents are visible if using the
"explore" option, but this is awkward and time consuming. This is a shared
drive in a workplace, and more than one person is having this problem.

Are the files on a server? The description would suggest a server problem
rather than a Word problem. Or maybe some strange network utility or
security app.
