"Files of Type" Default

Is it possible to set a default in the File Open dialogue box so that "All
Files (*.*)" is the default?

Normally Word retains the last selection, so if you select All Files once,
you should get that consistently until you make another selection.

Hmmm - it doesn't appear to be doing that for me. I am using Word 2000
(9.0). Is that "retention" a feature in a different version? Thanks! Karen

After more experimenting, I realized that this problem occurs with mailmerge
- my routine use of Word does indeed allow for all files. Do you have any
clues about how to change this when I use a mailmerge doc and want to default
to all file types? Thanks! Karen
