Files Open Slowly

I just installed Office 2003 Small Business Edition. Once
Word is up, I click file to open a file it will take 4-5
minutes before the options appear. This happens in Word,
Excel or Publisher. It also takes that long no matter
what I click on in the tool bar. Can anyone help.

Thanks

And have you also installed Norton Anti Virus? If so, open NAV and disable
the Office Plug-in option.

I have the same blody problem, with office 2003 certain
files open really slow, and every time I have to right-
click-open with Wordpad then save as rtf, then open them
with Word and save them as doc again. Everything works
well with Office 2000
This is not how it should work!
Is there any patch or fix for that because it is driving
me crazy!!!
Thanks!

There have been a lot of posts with similar problems appearing in Windows XP
news groups. As a result of these, I resolved this problem by varying the
network "Linkspeed/Duplex mode". ***For me, moving off Auto mode to 100mb
half duplex overcame the problem.
Ultimately new driver software for the NIC fixed the issue.
The reason was intermittently the NIC would autosense the wong mode
resulting in a large number of frame alignment errors which results in so
many retrys that the document (or Excel sheet) was taking up to 3 minutes to
open. As 95% of files being opened were Excel or Word - it appeared to
only be these items effected, which was in fact incidental to the problem

***(Log on as admin, Control panel, right click network Icon - properties -
configure - advanced)
