FIles opened without read only warning.

I am told by my users that they can open a file and then
another person can open it without the usuall warning that
the file must be opened read only.

What happens to lock or flag the file read only?

To flag a file read only, or to switch read only off, close the file and
right click the file in Explorer and click Properties. You'll see a
check box.

Read only just means that you can't save over the file at its current
location.

Unshare it? Or verify that the file they are opening is indeed the same file

I have users with the same problem, one user opens a word document, but when another user opens it there is no warning about opening read only. This problem has only started since the users were upgraded to office 2003. I am unable to find a solution, any ideas
