Fill patterns in Powerpoint v2004 not available in v2008?

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

In the earlier version of Powerpoint one could fill in shapes with diagonal lines, squares, stippled, and other patterns. This appears to be missing in 2008 - at least I can't find them.

Is there a way to import these from a powerpoint document created in v2003? or from the Windows version?

You are correct ‹ the older bitmap patterns are not supported by the newer
graphics engine plus bitmaps are losing favor across the board. However, all
is not lost... You have at least 3 options:

1- Instead of Smart Art Charts use the old charting app available if you go
to Insert> Object> Microsoft Graph Chart,

2- MacBU developed PNG replacements for the Smart Art Charts but I don't
remember if they were supplied by way of an update or separate download. Use
the regular Format Data Series & select Picture, then navigate to;

Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/Media/Clipart/Patterns

If the Patterns folder isn't there reply to that effect & I'll find out how
to obtain them for you,

3- Create your own patterns & insert them as picture fills.

What Bob said. There's a (very Windows-centric) set of other suggestions here:

No more Pattern Fills in PowerPoint 2007

Some may be adaptable to PPT 2008 (I'm thinking if you can use WMF picture fills, you
can use the set supplied on this page).
