Filling a formula in entire column

Is there any way to fill (pattern) a formula in every cell in a column
(without the use of a macro)?

Put the formula in the first cell, select the first cell again and press
ctrl + shift + down arrow to select the whole column, then press Ctrl + d

Copy the cell with the formula
Click the column header to select the entire column
Go to Edit | Paste Special, select Formulas radio button and OK
