Filter for only one column

M

MagiteK

Hi
I'm a normal excel user, and i would like to know if there's an eas
way to apply a filter to ONLY ONE column. Autofilter just seems t
apply it to all the cells in a row. If it implies adding some code,
don't care, but please try to keep it as simple as possible.

Thx for the help

All you need to do is highlight a single column (click the column
identifier at the top of the sheet) and then Data | Filter | Autofilter
(on). If you just want part of a column to be filtered (say, D5 to D50)
then highlight this range and Data | Filter | Autofilter (on).

Hope this helps.

That's what I thought Pete, and when I tested on my XL97 it didn't work that
way.........I got the whole thing, even if I put a blank column on both sides
of the column to be filtered...........maybe I got a setting set wrong or
sumpthin..........(at least that's what my Lady keeps telling me...<g>)

I have XL2000, and it works for me - well, almost. I've just done a few
tests (entering a list of numbers 0 to 9) in a few non-adjacent columns
starting with different cells. If I select a range extending beyond my
numbers (above and below - eg B5 to B30 with my data in B10 to B19),
then the filter pull-down symbol will only appear in the top-most cell
of the range if there is data elsewhere on the sheet in this row.
Similarly, if I select a blank column between two columns which have
data in them, the filter pull-down appears on the highest row which
contains data. If there is no data on the sheet, I can't set up a
filter at all.

Well, I didn't know that (but I wouldn't normally try to do it with a
blank sheet). Don't know why it wouldn't work in XL97, though, Chuck.
