FILTER OUT DATES IN LIST

I have a list in a column, including various comments and dates in 31/01/05
format.
How can I apply a filter so I see everything EXCEPT the dates?

i.e. if i go to <custom filter>
<does not equal>
<Date>...but that that obviously doesn't work
Any suggestions?

In the AutoFilter dropdown for that column, select Custom
In the first dropdown, choose 'greater than or equal to'
In the text box, type: a
Click OK
