filter won't delete

I have a form that I am trying to sort on more than one field. When I go to
Records, Filter, Advanced Filter/Sort - I pull up a main filter that has
criteria for a specific record. I don't know how the criteria was created,
but I can't seem to permanently delete it. Is it some sort of default, and
if so, is there a way to change it?

Forms and reports "close" with the last applied filter (when the form was in
form view) being saved with the form. This is how MS designed forms and
reports -- much to many people's chagrin and teeth-gnashing. But that is how
they work.
