Find and Replace box keeps disappearing

Word 2003 on WinXPPro.

After using Word for several hours, suddenly the Find option will no longer
work until I reboot the machine. I go to Edit | Find or Edit | Replace;
there is a tiny flash on the right of the Word window and the find or
replace dialog box does not show up any more. It still works in outlook
(using Word), Excel, etc. After I reboot it is OK for a while. I have run
a repair on Office 2003 but this has not fixed the problem. All MS Office
updates are in place.

What may cause this and how can I fix it?

Now none of these will work:
CTRL F or Tools Find
CTRL H or Tools Replace
CTRL G or Tools Go to

I select the option and nothing happens.

I have repaired Office and rebooted...
