Find and Replace doesn't work with formatting

I have been using Word 2002 for the first time. Whenever I use Find and
replace to search for some text and I specify formatting, the program
reports back that the item was not found. I double-checked to make sure the
text does exist, that none of the checkboxes is checked, and that the
formatting of the word matches the formatting I've selected, but it still
can't find it. I even selected a word in Times New Roman 12 point, and
searched for the same word in Times new Roman 12 point, and it still
couldn't find it. I also searched for the word specifying the style instead
of just the font and size, but it still doesn't work. I am a book editor, so
this is important. Has anybody else had this problem?

Hi Rojo,

I don't remember that searching for a style ever failed for me, when that
style existed in the document.

There can be problems searching for font, font size and so on if support for
Asian languages is installed.

Asian text and Latin text can use different fonts, font sizes ...
Sometimes, Word seems to get confused, and finds text only if you search for
the Asian font/size, though the text really is formatted in the Latin
font/text.

Bob Buckland wrote some posts about the problem as well, IIRC, and I think
there is even a KB article about it. Perhaps you can find more info using
Google.

I ran into that a while ago, and the problems disappeared after I
de-installed support for Japanese from the Microsoft Office Tools >
Microsoft Office Language Settings.

Greetings,
Klaus
