Find and Replace

Hi All,

Each month I have to perform a find and replace on a spreadsheet
covering a range of about 'A1:AA40'.

I usually ask it to find Jul' and replace it with Aug', so that the
spreadsheet looks at the correct worksheet on the spreadsheets it links
too.

When I perform this operation on my home PC its relatively quick, takes
about a minute. When I perform it on my work PC it takes forever, and
has just crashed on me.

Is there anything I can do or use that will speed up the find and
replace facility ?

My Home PC is more powerful (3.0 Ghz) compared to my 2.0 Ghz at work,
but I've never really noticed anything else thats different performance
wise. Also I use Excel 2003 at home and Excel 97 in work. Would that be
the major factor??

Many Thanks

Adam

Hi Adam

Without going into processor speeds and efficiencies, might it not be better
to change your formulae so that you don't have to do a search and replace.
Make the month a variable in a cell on the spreadsheet and just change the
value in that cell each month.

Hi,

I need to keep historical data so each month I copy the previous month
into a new worksheet, rename it then perform a find and replace.

Hi Adam

Then why not do as I suggest and at the end of each month, copy all of the
data from the sheet and Paste Special>Values to your Historic data sheet?
