Find function no longer working

I use the "Find" function all the time and suddenly it stopped working. I
clearly see a word in a Word document, do control-F, type it in and with or
without any added Search Options, it says the Word isn't found.

I'm not getting errors and have shut down and rebooted my computer. It's as
if the Find function can't read a single thing in a document. How do I begin
to troubleshoot this?

What font are you using? Is this only happening
in a particular document?

If the word is done in a symbol font (including one
that has text characters in it) then Word may not see
the characters as a 'word'. If you misspell a word
with that same font does spell check find the error?

I have had this happen, too, on occasion. I have never quite figured it out,
but I have suspected that it has something to do with Word thinking that
something is selected, so in that case it is only searching the selected
text. It's been a long time since that has happened, and I can't recreate it,
but you might just be sure you are not limiting the search by having some
text selected.
