Find/replace fractions

Grayling

I paste some data into lots of cells and then need to
edit/find/replace cells that contain "½" or other
fractions, substituting the decimal equivalents. The
problem is that I can't paste "½" into the Edit/Find box
in this form. In fact you can't paste anything into this
box and if I type in the box "1/2", Excel doesn't
see "½". Very grateful for any ideas.

Many thanks

How did you enter the "½" into your post?

Did you maybe use <Alt>0189 ?

If you pasted it, and didn't use the above, do this:
Hold <Alt> and enter ascii codes for the various fractions,
using the numbers *under* the function keys, *not* the numbers from the num
keypad.

Same thing works in the "replace Box".

(Don't know how this will display in the NG)
0188 = one quarter = ¼
0189 = one half = ½
0190 = three quarters = ¾

An easy way is to use charmap.exe to get those odd characters.

For 1/2, with the cursor in the "Find What" field, hold down <alt> and tap 0189
on the numeric keypad (be sure to tap all four digits, including the 0).

<alt>0189 --> ½

I mean the REVERSE.
*Don't* use the numbers under the function keys!
*Do* use the numbers from the num keypad!
