find words with more than one index entries

R

Richard Milnes

Does anyone have a macro that can find words that have more than one
index markers?

I have a large document that I tried to index using a concordance
file. But I now discover that I have loads of entries such as "Smith
Jones", "Smith Brown" and "Smith Williams", where the entries are
duplicated in the index entry for "Smith".

Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi Richard,

I guess you want to find two XE fields that are next to each other, like
this?

{ XE "Smith:Jones" }{XE "Smith" }

You could display hidden text (Ctrl+*) to show the XE fields, and then use
Edit > Find:
Find what: ^21^19

^21 is the closing field brace, ^19 the opening field brace.
If you select any brace, the whole field gets selected.

You'd then have to delete the duplicate entries by hand.
If there are lots of them, you might consider to create a macro for the
task.
Perhaps the macro recorder will get you something you can work with. If
not, and you need help, post back.

Regards,
Klaus
