Finding the correct formula

What formula do I use if B17 is grater than b14 and I want the sum of the two numbers in b19 to show a positive number not a negative but if b17 is less tha b14 i want the sum in b19 to show a negative number?

In cell B19, use the formula:

=if(b17>b14,b17+b14,-1*(b17+b14))

But, I have a hunch you don't really mean sum, do you? Are you considering
algebraic values? Are you doing accounting? Do you realize that to Excel -1
is much greater than -5?
