Finish Date in PWA

Is there any way to have resources change their Finish Date in PWA?

Right now we have the ability for resources to enter actual hours and
remaining hours, or percent complete for each task.

But there is a need on one project to not go this level of detail and have
the resources account for every hour, but for the resources
to just be able to go into PWA and modify the start and finish dates for
tasks they are assigned.

Currently we know of no way to make the Finish Date field a field that the
user can adjust through PWA.

Thanks,

Bill

In the future, please post your Project Server questions to the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is going to
close down. To answer your question, you will need to add the Actual Start
and Actual Finish fields to the list of Published fields in each project,
and you will need to add these two columns to the Timesheet view in PWA.
Refer to the following FAQ for the steps to do each of these:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/changetimesheet.htm

Hope this helps.

Background: On this particular project we just want resources to enter the
predicted Finish dates for each task, not to apply hours and have PS
calculate Finish Dates.

The Finish date seems to be a field that the user is not allowed to modify.

We published the Actual Finish field; now that shows up in the timesheet
view and users are allowed to modify it.
Unfortunately there is a side effect, the task is always marked as COMPLETE
when any Actual Finish Date is entered.

Also, when the Actual Finish date was entered in PWA and the change was
accepted by the manager, in some cases PS updated the schedule and in some
cases it didn't.

Is there a way to have resources modify the Finish field instead of the
Actual Finish field? Or, can we use the Actual Finish and not have it mark
the task as complete?

Team members are not allowed to change either the Start or Finish dates of a
task assignment, as this is the responsibility of the PM. If you want team
members to give the PM a new estimated finish date for their tasks, you
might try using a custom enterprise task Date field for this purpose. Add
the custom task date field to the Enterprise Global and name it something
like "Estimated Finish". Ask your PM's to add this custom field to their
list of Published fields in the project (Tools - Customize - Published
Fields) and then to republish the assignments using Collaborate - Publish -
Republish Assignments. Add the new field to the Timesheet view. Hope this
helps.

Dale,

I did this step Add the custom task date field to the Enterprise Global and
name it something like "Estimated Finish".

I also did this step, and the "Let resource change field" checkbox is
checked. Ask your PM's to add this custom field to their list of Published
fields in the project (Tools - Customize - Published
Fields)

I also did this step: and then to republish the assignments using
Collaborate - Publish -
Republish Assignments.

And I did this step: Add the new field to the Timesheet view.

And now the "Estimated Finish Date" field does show in the timesheet view:

The problem is that the resources can't edit the field from my timesheet
view, and also when I entered an "estimated finish date" on the schedule and
republished, the date didn't show in

the timesheet view in PWA. In other words, all of the Estimated Finish Date
fields remain blank in PWA no matter what I do. I can't put data in that
field and the users can't edit it.

Additional questions for you:

1. Did you open the Enterprise Global for editing, click Tools -
Customize - Enterprise Fields, select a custom enterprise task Date field,
and rename it? If so, which enterprise task Date field did you use?

2. Did your PM's open EVERY project they manage, click Tools - Customize -
Published Fields, add the Estimated Finish field to the list on the right
and select the "Let resource change field" option, and then click OK? This
step is required for EVERY project.

3. And then did the PM's republish the assignments for every project they
manage using Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments? This step is
required for EVERY project as well.

I have just performed the steps I specified in my original message and it is
working as expected. For any projects in which I did steps #2 and #3 above,
I can enter a date in the Estimated Finish field. For any projects in which
I did not do steps #2 and #3 above, I cannot enter a date in the Estimated
Finish field. Let us know.

Dale,
Thanks for all your help. We repeated steps 2 and 3 for 2 other projects on
the server and now
everything is working.
