I'm having trouble simply consolidating 2 text fields into on

I seem to recall Access reports dont like formulae in the detail section -
is that my problem?

No, that is not a problem.

Check the name of the control. It should not be the name of one of the
fields. If the control is named LastName change the name to txtFullName.

That's not a problem as long as both string are available in
other text boxes or in record source fields.
The one gotch in that scenerio is that the expression text
box's name can not be the same as the items your are
concatenating. I.e. The text box can not be named either
First Name or Last name. If it is, change it to something
else such as txtFullName.
