fitting layout exactly

I use a software which sends informations to word XP and word fits them
on a yet printed card

(hope my english is good enough) I defined a new format reflecting the
card one, and I use an array to put the informations (i use "signet"
(mark?)) This is not good enough because when I print several cards
(10-20) the informations don't stay at the same place in the card and
this even if I only print two cards!! How could I put an information
*exactly* at a spot (for example the name must be at 5cm from left
border and 2cm of the high border)

Thanks

Hi Philippe,

I believe I follow what you're describing. You're using automation to put
information into Word bookmarks, in order to insert/print text on
pre-printed cards. And when you print, the text is not always positioned
exactly enough on the cards.

Since some cards print correctly and others do not, I'd say you're looking
at a problem with the printer driver, and not specifically with Word...

You don't say how you've formatted Word to fit text on the card, but here an approach you can try.

1. Make sure you've defined a paper size for the card (File > Page Layout - Paper Size tab)
2. Draw a text box on the page (using the toolbar button on the Drawing toolbar or by selecting Insert > Text Box from the menu).
3. Double click on the border of the text box to open the Format Text Box dialog box, select the Text Box tab, and click Convert to Frame.
4. Double click on the border again (it's now a Frame, not a Text Box) and Word lets you set the vertical and horizontal position of the Frame. You'll probably want to set the position relative to Page.

From this point forward, you'll have to play with the position values and the text positioning within the frame to get things positioned correctly, but I believe that using a frame will give you much more accurate print positioning from page to page.

HTH!
