Details of this fix have been posted on several occassions already,
and some concerns have been expressed about Symantec's "modis
operandi".
In their proposed solution, they have shifted the focus of the problem
from their product (Norton Antivirus) to another software program
(Microsoft's Internet Explorer).
Making those changes Symantec suggest, to IE, will affect *EVERY*
other program on your computer that might use the certificate
verification process - not a very desirable outcome.
However, focusing on the apparent offending program - NAV - and
unticking the Office plugin option in the settings, only affects NAV.
In addition, this Office plugin option is a add-on extra level of
protection by the NAV progam, and thus no effective loss of security
or protection really is experienced by turning it off anyway!
