FIXED COLUMN WIDTH IN TABLE

Maureen

How can we set a fixed column width in a table so that
when we type text, the column does not enlarge to
accommodate the text?

Thanks

On the menu bar Table|Table properties|column. You can also set row height
in the same place. HTH T

I work in Word 2000. I can see how to set column to a
precise measurement but when I insert a line of text that
is long in a cell of that column without a return, it
expands the column to accommodate the text. When I choose
the wrap option, it still expands the column.

Try Table properties|Options: Option:Allow automatic resize of columns.
Click this OFF.

Sorry, I use the german version, so I don't know the exact translation.
It's the entry at the very end of the dialogmask "Table properties|Options"

On the Table tab of Table Properties, click the Options... button and turn
off "Automatically resize to fit contents."
