flashing titlebar in Word 2002

Occasionally, not often, a word file will open, but the
title bar is flashing and not editing is possible. None
of the commands are available and the only way to close
the program is "alt control delete". This problem has
even happened with a very small file that opens
immediately. Thank you for any help you might offer.

This is commonly a side-effect of the Norton AntiVirus Office Plug-in.
Disable it.
