floating figures and captions

G

George

I'm sure this question has been asked a hundred times
before, but I can't find the answer anywhere. I currently
insert a figure as an "in line" object immediately after
some descriptive text. I follow the figure with a
numbered caption. The trouble is that if the figure is
too large to fit below the text on the page, it is moved
to the top of the next page, leaving a large blank space.
I would like the figure *and* the caption to "float" to
the top of the next page and have the text that follows
the caption to fill in the page below the text that first
references the figure.

Thanks,
George

Select the figure and its caption and use the Insert Frame button on the
Forms toolbar to put them both in a frame. Remove the border (Format |
Borders and Shading: None or the No Border button on the Borders palette on
the Formatting toolbar). The wrapping should be set to Around by default,
and any other properties you can fine-tune by right-clicking on the frame
border and choosing Format Frame.
