"Floating" navigation bar

Does anyone know where I can get a script so that a left-aligned navigation
bar will "float" down the page when it's scrolled so that the viewer always
has it handy on the left side?? I have searched for about 2 days and have
been unable to find this, although I have seen it on websites (but neglected
to take a look at the source code or otherwise note where I've seen the
floating nav.)

which allows you to place images and menu items keeping them visible during
scrolling.
