floppy disk problem

i am working on xp, in word i am trying to open a floppy disk and keep
recieving the message: the selected disk drive is not in use, check to make
sure a disk is inserted, i have tried troubleshooting but no joy, can anyone
help please?

I see you're multi posting - which is a major pain, specially when done to
the wrong ng -
Learn how to cross post - similar process to sending the same email msg to
multiple recipients - then we can all read any responses

Are they XP formatted floppies?

What happens if you save to the deskop and copy to the floppy?

i am unable to get past the original error message? the disk is formatted
and i have been working with it for some time, im wondering if it is a
problem with the drive itself, any ideas?

Opening documents on a floppy disk in Word is guaranteed to eventually
cause a lose of data. Word creates a second copy of the file in the
location the file exists and if you run out of room or have a hardware
problem things go pear shaped in a hurry. Open Windows Explorer, copy
the file to the hard drive and open it there. Copy it back in Explorer,
when you are done editing.
