Folder Error

I hope this is the right forum for this. We are using Word 2000. We have
shortcuts in the my document folder that point to various other shares on
the network. For some reason users cannot open the shortcuts. Here is how
the shortcuts are set up.

\\myserver\sharedfiles\myfiles
The users have RWCEM to the myfiles directory and have NO permissions set
for sharedfiles. (Sharedfiles is not set to deny.) They can open the
shortcut from windows explorer but when trying to open it in Word 2000 they
get an error about no permissions to \\myserver\sharedfiles . Why would it
need permissions to the parent folder if they aren't going there? Any help
would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Lando

That's a Windows question, but Word needs full permissions from the top
level (root) folder as well as the sub-folder it is going to access. Other
Folders sharing the top folder my be restricted, but the Folder as well as
the sub-folder being access must have full rights.
