folder for web

J

Jane Here

The web I am building is on my C drive as C:\JaneWeb. I use FP2003 to upload
it to the ISP site. All works OK.

I backup my work on the C drive every day using Winzip. I got myself into
trouble today, and wanted to restore yesterday's backup. AfterI did that,
the icon from \JaneWeb changed from the web icon to an ordinary folder. Is
that going to cause me any problems? Should I just change the folder icon
myself?

Changing the icon won't necessarily help as it doesn't effect the
directories really. The difficult thing is, whether or not you included the
hidden directories in your Zip backup. FrontPage has many directories that
it uses to store information about a web and, essentially, define what the
web is. These directories begin with _vti. Now, if WinZip included these
then you should be in good shape and should be open to able the JaneWeb as a
web. If not, then you may need to recreate the web as all the things that FP
used to tell itself that JaneWeb is an FP web are lots. You must make sure
that you inlcude these when backing up to WinZip. To see them, you may have
to enable showing hidden files and folders under the Tools | Options menu
item in Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps,

Hi Jane,

Assuming the web version is okay, then open the web using FP and publish back to your HD at Janes web
