folding tri-fold

I have finished trifold brochure. I have used the grids
lines for three columns. I have margins set at .5 inches.
Thus I have a .5 margin all around my page. If I reduce
the margins, I get part of a text box border not printing
at the edge of the paper. My problem is that folding the
brochure three ways does not work because I have that
margin around the edge. The folds do not fall on the
space between the columns.

What should I do? I am not going to print the brochure on
my printer but take it to Office Depot or Staples to have
it printed. If it is printed elsewhere, can the margins
be set to be closer to the edge of the paper?

Please offer any suggestions and information.

Thanks,
Susan

I think it would be better to create individual frames for each panel and
size them to fit according to where you want the folds. If necessary you
could link the frames for text to flow from one panel to the next.

If you have your layout guides set to have a half-inch margin all around,
and you have designed to these layout guides, you can simply trim off the
half-inch from each side, and you will be able to fold it perfectly.

However, most commercial printers are able to print to the very edge of the
paper (by using slightly larger paper and trimming) - but talk to the
printer you are going to user beforehand.
Also, if you have to readjust the layout guides in your publication so that
they are at the edges of the page once again, you will also need to do a
little redesign work on the publication to make sure that everything
balances into the new column sizes nicely.

I ran to Staples and took the CD with me. I found out
that Staples uses a Canon ImageRunner 8500. Maybe you can
tell me what the margins can be set to for that one for
portrait and landscape?

Steve was so helpful and played around with the margins
on my document to work with their printer and then seeing
how it would print. I came home with the document and a
floppy and arranged the guides to see what he adjusted
the text boxes to. He kept the top and bottom margins
at .5" and adjusted the left and right margins to .2".

Thanks,
Susan

The new employee tried to open my file on CD but had a
read problem. Steve said that it was because Publisher
tries to create a temporary file to make changes but
can't with a CD. That explains why I have had problems
with Publisher and CD's!

Yes, you cannot save Publisher files direct to a CD (saving to a CD is a
very bad idea in any software, as most software is designed to save to
read/write media), and it is not recommended to open files directly from a
CD as they will be read-only and Publisher does not always like to play ball
when opening read-only files.
It isn't too hard to copy the file to the local hard drive and open from
there, though.

According to a site I found, the Canon ImageRunner has a 0.18" margin all
the way around the page. (And it is a *very* cool-looking printer. I have a
"thing" for really big colour laser printers :-D)
