Font Formatting

I am using Word 2000. If I select Help on the menu bar and select "What's This", then select a paragraph, a Paragraph Formatting and Font Formatting menu up. In the Font Formatting menu, the last item says Direct. I notice that sometime there is info in the Direct section and sometime there is not. Please tell me why. In other words, it sometimes has the type of font. If I select "What This" box again, and select the same info..the font info is not there. Why is it there one time and other times it is not.
