FONT ISSUES

Windows XP, SP1, Office 2003

not all the fonts that appear in my fonts folder are available to format
text in Word or Excel. Only Truetype fonts are available in Word or Excel -
is there a switch somewhere for TTF only ?
but there are still TTF fonts in the fonts folder that are not available -
any idea why ?

also i can open an old document which has some text in 'lucida
handwriting' - lucida handwriting is not available for formatting text, nor
is it in the fonts folder on my machine, but if I insert into the middle of
the text, the insertion is formatted as lucida handwriting - what is going
on ?

Word and Excel obtain the list of fonts from the printer driver. If I
change printers then my available fonts change too.

What printer do you use?

I noted that one from your original post but if you don't have it in
your Fonts folder then it will not appear in your Fonts list.

The reason it will appear if you place the insertion point in
characters that use this font is because Word will keep track of fonts
used in the document. However it will substitute missing fonts if it
is not available. If you open the document and go to
Tools/Options/Compatibility and click the "Font Substitution" command
you'll see the missing fonts and their substitutions.

The fonts I was asking about are those that are in your Fonts folder
but do not appear in the available fonts list in Word or Excel.
