Font list skews off by one

Version: v.X
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Frequently when I select a font off of the drop-down font menu, the computer gives me instead the font that is one above the selected font on the list. So, for instance, if I select to format a document in Times New Roman, it instead formats the document in Times. My only recourse is to select the font below the desired one on the list: if I select Times New Roman Bold, I get Times New Roman.

Any suggestions?

Hello Alison;

I don't have a specific answer to your problem but didn't want you to think
your post had been ignored. Unfortunately there are very few attempting to
continue using Office X on Leopard-based Intel Macs, so it's unlikely that
anyone has experienced the same issue. It's equally unlikely that anyone can
repro the issue in order to troubleshoot or help resolve it.

That version of Office was hastily thrown together to coincide with the
intro of OS X 10.0 on PPC Macs, has not been updated beyond 10.1.9 & is
end-of-life (no longer produced, updated, or supported), so I would imagine
that there will be a number of other issues arising if you continue to use
that version in OS X 10.5.x... Although many were able to run it effectively
on Tiger, Leopard is radically different in many respects. If you don't want
to revert to OS X 10.4.11 I'd highly recommend that you consider upgrading
to Office 2004 or 2008.

The only suggestion I can offer to help resolve you current problem is to
make sure that Office X is fully updated. You can still get the update here
if you need it:

Run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions after applying the update. If
your installation is already updated it still wouldn't hurt to run the
utility, then restart your Mac. I doubt that will fix the problem as it
possibly revolves around Unicode fonts & the total lack of Unicode support
in Office X. If that is the case I'm afraid there is no 'fix' although the
info here may possibly help:
