font problems with equation 3 in word 2003

I have recently upgraded to office 2003 pro - i have also
installed mathcad for a university maths course i do.

when i open equation3 to insert an object into word2003,
the mathamatical symbols are displayed incorrectly -
example the multiply sign is displayed as the greek
letter gamma. The Same problem happens in mathcad.

the mathcad help section identified the problem as a
missing or changed symbol true type font and to replace
it with the original. When i looked at the font folder -
symbol.ttf was a shortcut to the program folder for
championship manager. I reinstalled windows XP pro to
replace the original ttf font thinking this would solve
the problem, but it hasn't. i have removed mathcad - and
championship manager but the problem is still there for
equation.

I don't think it's a problem with the new update to 2003,
as office 2003 still uses equation3 the same as office
xp, but i may be wrong as i didn't use equation3 or
mathcad before updating office and installing mathcad and
championship manager - so the problem could have been
there for a while!

Any suggestions would be great

Perhaps the original font wasn't really removed. It's possible to
have several copies of a particular font -- Symbol, for example
-- but only one will show up when you view the font listing. Open
the font folder, click once on the font you want to delete, and
press the delete key. Close the font folder and open it again.
(For some reason, a simple refresh really doesn't.) If the font
is still listed there, delete it again. Continue doing this until
the font no longer shows up.
