Font Spacing Problems in PP 2004

We are seeing a problem where letters are erratically spaced, either
compressed together or spread too far apart. This is occurring in a
presentation that was fine in PP X. Changing fonts or font sizes has
some impact but does not solve the issue. It is particularly
noticeable with smaller fonts. Anybody else with this problem and
hopefully a solution?

I have the same problem, although it only seems to affect Times New Roman.
Has anyone found a solution? This is driving me crazy.
