fonts change in embedded charts if screen resolution too low

Puzzled

Office XP on Windows XP. Screen resolution set to 800x600. Add or edit chart
to powerpoint and fonts corrupt. MS claims problem is fixed with latest
service packs, but I'm completely updated and still having problems
