Fonts in Excel

Kevin

Having difficulty on a spreadsheet changing the font
colors on two cells. All other cells working fine. The
two cells are NOT formulas, however, one is in
the 'percentage' number format and the other is simply in
the 'general' number format. The cells that do change
font color fine are all in the 'currency' number format.

Any ideas? I have checked the conditional formatting and
nothing is set on this.

Kevin,

If there are number formats with anything like [Red], [Black] in them,
they'll override any manual color formatting. It doesn't appear to be so in
your case, since you say the formatting is General. Check Format - Cells -
Number - Custom just to be sure.

If there are conditional formats applied, they will also override any manual
formatting. Check Format - Conditional Formatting.

Earl,

Thanks for the reply. Well, no conditional formatting on
this worksheet (or any I have done to date). However,
your first instinct on number formats was interesting.
Unfortunately, the percentage and general number formats
do not have this?? Only the currency (that I know of).

The interesting thing is that the others (currency) are
changing to whatever color I choose..red, blue, purple,
green...etc. Furthermore, the format font color reflects
the changes I make on these cells. The cells simply
remain black in text color????

Thanks for your consideration...I am perplexed!! The
concept was to send this sheet out to someone and it made
more sense to have her input values where I reflect
a 'color' like red or blue.

Kevin,

It both cases I mentioned, the font button will reflect the color you've
chosen, but the cell will not, as it's been overridden by either the
conditional formatting, or the number formatting. Try Edit - Clear -
Formats on the cells, then attempt to manually set the font color. You can
always undo, or close without saving to get back to what it was.

Hi Kevin,
Another possibility:

The use of Format, Style can seem like a template was used
to set up colors, but can't find any such format. check...
Format (menu), Style, to be normal and no shading
