fonts - my new font doesn't work - msword goes to default font

I installed a new font - i have windows XP - so I installed it by using
control panel.
When I go to word, and select the font - it defaults to my default font. If
I click on the font in the file - it looks okay.

Hi RN,

In Word, while in Print Layout view, check to see that you have selected a printer other than 'generic/text' in File=>Print. If
so, then in a document where you have used this font use Tools=>Options=>Compatability and click on [Font Substitutions] to see if
Word is recognizing the font or replacing it.

Thanks Bob for your offer to help. I went to a msword document, clicked on
view, and selected "print view" - but nothing happened, how do I see the
printer selection?

What is so weird the font shows on the font drop down list in word, but when
I select it, it reverts to another font. I initially thought that it
reverted to the default font which I have set at arial, but just noticed it
reverts to the last used font. It will not so the new font - even on the
screen prior to printing.
