Footnote shows Header just above it.

Hi,

I'm getting a really weird error when I insert a Footnote. The footnote
reference number inserts into the body of the text ok and the Footnote then
appears at the bottom of the page with the small dividing line above it.
However, above the small dividing line appears the Header!!?? Not only that,
the Header is from before I modified the current document (ie the Header is
not from the current document). The document started life a few years ago
and has been opened in various versions of word including 2003 and now 2007
and modified several times. There are obviously remnants of the document
from a while ago that seem to be corrupting the current document.

Can anybody help?

Copy all but the final paragraph mark and paste into a new blank document.
That will dump all your H&Fs so that you can recreate them. Ctrl+End,
Ctrl+Shift+Home, Ctrl+C, switch to the new blank and Ctrl+VS..
