footnote style

for some reason, Word (2002) does not allow me to apply
styles for footnotes. Am I doing anything wrong?
Is there anyway to use styles with footnotes?

You should just be able to select the text and apply a style as you normally
would. At what exact step in the process does this go wrong, and what
happens?

Why do you want to anyhow? Will modifying the Footnote Text Style serve your
purposes?

A TOC or StyleRef field won't pick up info from within notes, though.

If you let us know what the desired end product is, we might be able to
suggest another way to get there, if none of that helps.
