Force Access 2003 Visual Basic references to be backward compatabl

How do I force Access 2003 Visual Basic references to be backwards compatable
with Access 2002? Is there a way to programmically select the references
based on version? Reason: The Word 11.0 object library is not available in
Access 2002, only 10.0 version is. Novice users are using Access 2002 and
don't know how to switch the references. Converting the database from it's
saved Access 2000 format to Access 2002 did not fix the VB reference error.
